O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar a observância do Direito Internacional Humanitário pela União Europeia. Primeiramente, o trabalho visa identificar as normas de Direito Internacional Humanitário na ordem jurídica europeia. Em seguida, a aplicabilidade do Direito Internacional Humanitário nas operações militares da União Europeia é abordada. Posteriormente, é feita análise sobre a promoção do Direito Internacional Humanitário pela União Europeia. Por fim, conclui- se que que a União Europeia reconhece o Direito Internacional Humanitário na sua ordem jurídica e nas suas operações militares, sobretudo em caso de conflitos armados. No entanto, é na promoção da observância do Direito Internacional Humanitário que a União Europeia exerce o seu papel mais relevante.
